Arusha holds some of the country's historical gems including the International Conference Center where some of the most important peace treaties and international agreements are kept. The markets are filled with high-quality crafts and local cuisine. Arusha also has a national park that is of great interest to bird lovers, with over 570 different bird species recorded.

Arusha is best located for Safaris and is a departure point to the northern circuit of the Tanzania wilderness. Arusha National Park is just few kilometres away, and Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park are also close. Other famous parks are the Ngorongoro Crater (the 8th Wonder of the World); the spectacular endless plains of the Serengeti National Park, which hosts the annual wildebeest migration; and the Olduvai Gorge where two million-year-old fossil bones of some of the earliest human ancestors were discovered, along with their ancient stone tools and the remains of many extinct animals. Arusha is also home to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.
